INTRODUCTION

Ernest Zacharevic is a young Lithuania-born artist who has become exceedingly popular in Penang after completing a series of murals entitled Mirrors of Georgetown as part of Georgetown Festival 2012. In this walking trail, you will discover all the murals by Ernest Zacharevic.

Ipoh Excursion Options (11th August 2018)

Start with the old town’s charismatic laneways, lined with period buildings that house cafes and shops, with the occasional flash of street art brightening weathered corners. South of here, Ipoh’s Little India has glittering shops and excellent places to eat. East of the river in Ipoh’s new town, a cluster of canteens serve up regional classics like ayam tauge (chicken and beansprouts), Ipoh’s famous white coffee, and creamy beancurd pudding. Directly north, alongside the shiny Parade shopping mall, are upmarket hotels and a scattering of bars. It’s an exciting place for an urban interlude, as well as a convenient gateway for travel to the Cameron Highlands.

Introduction

Get up close and personal with nature, experience an exotic and mystifying rainforest where the fastest butterflies swarm by the riverbank while you enjoy swimming in the river or glide down the river on a raft.

Test out your river skills and go on an adrenaline rush as you ride through 14 rapids and cooling waters of Kampar River in Perak, just 30 minutes from Ipoh, Perak, a state in west Malaysia famous for its’ tin ore, pomelo fruit, sumptuous food, home-grown white coffee, temples, caves and hot springs!

Checklist:

  3. Bring a set of clothes & sandals to change after the adventure

HIGHLIGHTS

On the river, you will have the thrills of tackling exciting rapids and floating down the clear water river amidst a lush rainforest. You will ride the continuous rapids graded from class I-III, and continue down river, passing by some old tin mining plains. Have fun during the rafting, do some body-rafting or even take a spin in the raft with your head in the water….or just get to the traditional fun of water fight with your fellow rafters! Get wet and get in touch with nature once more! As a standard procedure, safety briefing will be done by professional river guide before going down the river which covers the paddling commands, paddling skills, capsize drills, actions when overboard or river rescue.

GUA TEMPURUNG CAVING ADVENTURE (FULL!)

INTRODUCTION

Gua Tempurung is one of the largest natural limestone structure in Malaysia, located in Gopeng, Perak, Malaysia. It is popular among caving enthusiasts. The tunnel of the cave runs from the east to the west covering a distance of about 2km under the limestone hills. It is made up of 5 large domes and is believed to have existed since 8,000 B.C., about 10,000 years ago. It comprises of five huge domes with ceilings resembling coconut shells. Each of these domes has different calcium formations and marble there exist in differing temperatures and water levels. These caves are famous for its breathtaking gallery of stalagmites, stalactites and other amazing rock formations that are superb speleological wonders, found only in this part of the world.

INTRODUCTION

Emerald tea plantations unfurl across valleys, and the air is freshened by eucalyptus – Malaysia’s largest hill-station area feels instantly restorative. Temperatures in these 1300m to 1829m heights rarely top 30°C, inspiring convoys of weekenders to sip tea and eat strawberries here. Named after explorer Sir William Cameron, who mapped the area in 1885, the highlands were developed during the British colonial period. Gardens, bungalows and even a golf course sprang up during the 1930s, making the Cameron Highlands a refuge for heat-addled Brits to mop their brows.

INTRODUCTION

The murals are painted on the walls of old buildings with several themes such as heritage, culture, scenery and others by renowned foreign artist Ernest Zacharevic, the same man who painted murals on walls along the streets of Penang’s Georgetown as well as some work by local artists. The Ipoh Mural Art Trail shows the concerns, hopes, values and memories of the community where the murals were painted. It has a different purpose, a different kind of effect on the lives of those who see them. Currently there are 44 murals found at several locations.

You may stroll along The Memory Of 120 Years Old Lane – Concubine Lane, heritage buildings, Miniature wonders Art Gallery etc. Put on a pair of comfortable sneakers, slap on the sun block and explore the nostalgic Old Town Ipoh. This town is made for walking.

椰壳洞是大马最大的天然石灰岩溶洞之一。它的圆顶就像是由5个巨大的椰子壳所组成,悬挂在内的石笋和钟乳石形成了不同的人物以及动物造型。每个圆顶都有不同的温度、水平线、石灰石和大理石等。对一些爱冒险的游客来说,这里肯定能让你有毕生难忘的体验!

充满神秘色彩的椰壳洞有如蚂蚁窝般,须有导游带路才不至于在曲折洞穴中迷失。这里曾是马来亚人民抗日军的驻扎地,至今洞内依然留有当年抗日军留下的壁画。

椰壳洞里的金流石连绵起伏,纹路如同波浪,形成独具一格的自然景观。洞里处处有惊喜,沿着开发好的山路,石阶,木桥和楼梯,足以好好游览洞里一个个隐藏着的海豚、水母、老虎、狮子、牛头、海马等自然景观。另有周边错综复杂如蜂窝大小般的洞穴、石笋、钟乳石、天然奇岩和白色大理石地砖等为洞穴增添声色!

旧街场壁画

自从陶宛籍画家尔纳斯(Ernest Zacharevic)在槟城的壁画迅速蹿红起来后,许多游客都到槟城一睹其风采。而这位名画家也辗转到了怡保来作画。他那具有当地特色的画作也很快吸引许多游客前去观看和照相。这些壁画有多个不同的主题, 例如: 遗产,文化,风景等,每一幅作品恰恰反映当地人的生活文化及思维。目前怡保街场上有44个壁画,一些是由其他当地画家创作的,确实让逛街多了一份乐趣!

位于旧街场美食商圈附近除了有许多道地的小食外,还有几个很特别和风格十足的景点。近期有条名气火红的窄巷,名为二奶巷(Concubine lane ),在名气上远比大奶巷和三奶巷闻名。二奶巷最近重新被推介,连同三奶巷及完全无人知晓的大奶巷,这3条名字充满“遐想”巷弄,如今已打造成新旅游胜地。当二奶巷刚开始有名气时,坊间传出二奶巷是当年富商包养二奶的温柔乡。大矿家姚德胜的孙儿出来解释二奶巷并非是专门“包养二奶”的地方,而是当年姚德胜送给第二老婆(广东话“二奶”)整列供收租的店铺,替巷子取了这个名字。现称邦里玛巷(Lorong Panglima)。而如今加上怡保壁画掀起的旅游热潮,造成二奶巷成了游客必到的旅游区。
